Usage Note

Tal is invariable for gender but agrees in number, becoming tales in the plural (tal persona, tales personas). As a pronoun it can mean 'such a thing' or 'so-and-so'. Two key fixed phrases: tal vez ('perhaps', slightly more formal than quizás) and con tal de que ('provided that', always followed by the subjunctive); tal cual means 'exactly as it is'.
