Usage Note

Supuesto is the past participle of suponer (to suppose) used as an adjective. The fixed phrase por supuesto means 'of course'. When placed before a noun, supuesto signals doubt or irony: el supuesto experto (the so-called expert). Dar por supuesto means to take for granted.
