Zumbido is the noun from zumbar (to buzz, to hum). It describes the persistent low drone of an insect, an electrical appliance, or tinnitus (zumbido de oídos). In medicine, zumbido de oídos is the equivalent of English 'tinnitus' — a ringing or buzzing in the ears.
