Origin: From Latin caecus ('blind').

Usage Note

Ciego can be used literally (quedarse ciego — 'to go blind') and figuratively (amor ciego — 'blind love'). As a noun el ciego / la ciega means 'a blind person.' The phrase a ciegas (adv.) means 'blindly / in the dark' — avanzar a ciegas ('to grope one's way forward'). Do not confuse with cerrado ('closed'), which is a different concept.
