Usage Note

Tanto is invariable as an adverb (trabaja tanto = 'she works so much'), but agrees in gender and number as a determiner (tantos libros, tantas horas). The reduced form tan is used before adjectives and adverbs (tan rápido). The phrase tanto... como means 'both... and' or 'as much... as'.
