Usage Note

Els is the Catalan masculine plural definite article, equivalent to Castilian los. It is not a Spanish word and appears in Spanish-language texts only in Catalan proper names, institutional titles, and code-switching contexts common in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands. Learners of Castilian should recognise it as Catalan and use los in their own writing.
