Usage Note

Desoír means to deliberately fail to heed advice, a warning, or an order — closer to 'to turn a deaf ear to' than merely 'not to hear'. It is conjugated like oír throughout: desoye, desoyó, desoiga. It is formal and common in legal, journalistic, and political writing, e.g. desoír una orden judicial (to disregard a court order).
