Also means
to disregard
Usage Note
Desoír means to deliberately fail to heed advice, a warning, or an order — closer to 'to turn a deaf ear to' than merely 'not to hear'. It is conjugated like oír throughout: desoye, desoyó, desoiga. It is formal and common in legal, journalistic, and political writing, e.g. desoír una orden judicial (to disregard a court order).
Examples
"El gobierno decidió desoír las advertencias de los expertos."
Natural Translation
The government decided to ignore the experts' warnings.
