Also means
godmother (of one's child)
Usage Note
Comadre has a precise ritual meaning: the relationship between a woman and her child's godmother, or between two women who are co-godmothers. In everyday speech, however, it is used warmly for a close female friend or confidante, especially in Latin America. The male equivalent is compadre. In some contexts it carries a mildly gossipy connotation (las comadres del barrio = the neighborhood gossips).
Examples
"Mi comadre me ayudó durante la mudanza."
Natural Translation
My close friend helped me during the move.
