Usage Note

Besar covers kissing on the lips, cheeks, or hands. The reciprocal form besarse means to kiss each other. In Spain it is customary to greet with two cheek kisses (dos besos); dar un beso (to give a kiss) is the most common colloquial construction. Learners sometimes confuse it with abrazar (to hug).
