Afecto is masculine (el afecto) and expresses warm feeling or emotional attachment, slightly more formal than cariño. In medicine, afecto or afectividad refers to emotional tone. As an adjective (less common), afecto a means 'attached to' or 'subject to' (a condition): bienes afectos a la herencia.
