Usage Note
Abandono covers abandonment of a person or place, neglect of a duty, and withdrawal from a competition or race (abandono en la tercera etapa — withdrawal in the third stage). The verb is abandonar. The phrase en estado de abandono (in a state of neglect/disrepair) is very common in descriptions of buildings or land.
