Usage Note
Teñir is a stem-changing verb (e→i in many forms); the past participle teñido is used both for hair and fabric. In reflexive form teñirse el pelo is the standard way to say 'to dye one's hair'. It also appears figuratively: teñido de melancolía means coloured by melancholy.
