Usage Note
Techado derives from techar (to roof) and refers to the roof or covered part of a building, or to any roofed area such as a carport or covered patio. It overlaps with techo (ceiling/roof) but emphasises the covering as a whole construction rather than the surface seen from inside. In Argentina and Chile it is frequently used for a covered outdoor space.
Examples
"Comimos bajo el techado para evitar el sol."
Natural Translation
We ate under the roofed area to avoid the sun.
