Usage Note
Sorprendido is the past participle of sorprender used as an adjective, agreeing in gender and number (sorprendida, sorprendidos). Use estar sorprendido (not ser) to express a state of surprise: ser sorprendente describes something inherently surprising, while estar sorprendido describes how a person feels in the moment. The preposition is de or por: sorprendido de/por la noticia.
