Usage Note

Relevar has two core senses: to replace or relieve someone in a post (relevar a un soldado = to relieve a soldier on duty) and to exempt someone from an obligation (relevar de sus funciones = to relieve of duties, i.e. to dismiss). Do not confuse with revelar (to reveal or develop a photo), which looks very similar and is a common spelling error.
