Usage Note

Adquirir has a vowel change in stressed syllables: adquiero, adquieres, adquiere, adquieren. It is formal and used for gaining skills, property, or habits (adquirir experiencia, adquirir una propiedad). The noun is adquisición (acquisition). In everyday speech comprar (to buy) is more natural for purchases.
