Promisorio is a formal adjective with two distinct registers. In everyday and journalistic use it means 'showing great promise' (un futuro promisorio). In legal and financial language it means 'promissory', as in nota promisoria ('promissory note'), the equivalent of English 'IOU'. The everyday sense is more common in Latin America; in Spain prometedor is more usual for 'promising'.
