procurar

to try

verb proh-koo-RAHR Less Common

Also means

to endeavour

Usage Note

Procurar means to try to achieve something or to take care to do it — closer to 'to make sure' than the weaker 'to try'. Procura llegar a tiempo is a firm instruction: 'Make sure you arrive on time.' It is more formal or careful in tone than intentar. It can also mean to obtain or procure something (procurar recursos).

Examples

"Procura descansar antes del examen."

Natural Translation

Try to rest before the exam.
