Planificación is the noun from planificar and denotes structured, systematic planning, often at an institutional level: planificación urbana (urban planning), planificación familiar (family planning). Planeación is the preferred form in Mexico and parts of Latin America for the same concept, whereas planificación is standard in Spain.
