patrol

noun pah-TROO-yah Rare

Origin: From French patrouille.

Usage Note

Patrulla refers to a group of soldiers, police, or guards on patrol, as well as to the act of patrolling itself: patrulla policial, coche patrulla (patrol car). The verb patrullar means 'to patrol'. Do not confuse with patrón/patrona (patron, boss), which is a different root.
