Usage Note
Absolver is a stem-changing verb (o→ue: absuelvo, absuelves…). It is used in both legal contexts (el jurado lo absolvió — 'the jury acquitted him') and religious ones (a priest absolves a penitent in confession). Exonerar is a close synonym in the legal register; perdonar is the everyday word for forgiving someone informally.
