Usage Note
Pancarta specifically refers to a hand-held sign or banner carried in a protest or demonstration, or a large printed banner hung in a public space. It is more specific than cartel (poster/sign) and almost always implies a public, often political, display. The plural is pancartas. In some contexts pancarta is used for any large advertising banner.
