Usage Note

Panamericano describes anything encompassing all of the Americas — los Juegos Panamericanos ('the Pan American Games'), la Carretera Panamericana ('the Pan-American Highway'). It is written as one word in Spanish. The adjective agrees in gender and number: el ideal panamericano / la ruta panamericana. The concept of pan-Americanism (panamericanismo) has roots in Simón Bolívar's vision of continental unity.
