Mejor serves as both the comparative ('better') and the superlative ('best') — context and article determine which: es mejor (it's better), el/la mejor (the best). Like mayor, it never takes más before it — más mejor is nonstandard. The phrase mejor dicho means 'rather' or 'or more precisely'. A lo mejor means 'maybe/perhaps' and is extremely common in spoken Spanish.
