Usage Note
Abrumador derives from abrumar (to overwhelm, to burden) and can describe both an emotionally overwhelming experience and a sheer numerical or physical excess — una mayoría abrumadora is an overwhelming majority. The feminine form is abrumadora. It is a formal register adjective; in casual speech agobiante (suffocating, overwhelming) is often preferred.
