Usage Note
Mejilla is the standard word for the cheek (the fleshy part of the face). It should not be confused with pómulo ('cheekbone') or carrillo, an informal synonym for cheek used in some regions of Spain. Common phrases include dar un beso en la mejilla (to kiss on the cheek) — in Spain, greetings customarily involve two kisses, one on each cheek (dos besos).
Examples
"Le dio un beso en la mejilla."
