Llorar is pronounced with an initial ll- sounding like English 'y', so the word starts 'yoh-'. Llorar de alegría (to cry with joy) and llorar a mares (to cry buckets) are common expressions. The noun llanto (weeping) is the more formal counterpart, and llorón/llorona (crybaby) is a familiar derived form, known to many from the Mexican legend of La Llorona.
