Usage Note
Ligue is a colloquial, informal term widespread in Spain for a brief romantic or sexual encounter, or for the person involved — es mi ligue ('he/she is my fling'). The verb ligar ('to pick someone up') is its root. In Latin America the concept is more often expressed with lío or amorío. Avoid ligue in formal writing.
