Usage Note
Infierno is the standard word for hell in both religious and colloquial contexts. Colloquially it means an unbearable situation: este tráfico es un infierno (this traffic is hell). The phrase ¡vete al infierno! is a strong insult equivalent to 'go to hell'. Cielo (heaven) is its direct antonym.
