indignar

to outrage

verb een-deeg-NAHR Rare

Origin: From Latin indignari, from in- + dignus (worthy)

Also means

to anger

Usage Note

Indignar means to provoke moral outrage. The reflexive indignarse is far more common and means to feel indignant or outraged: me indigna que mientan (it outrages me that they lie). Note that the subject of the outrage is the grammatical object when using the transitive form — parallel to how molestar works.

Examples

"La injusticia me indigna profundamente."

Natural Translation

Injustice outrages me deeply.

Literal Translation

The injustice to-me outrages deeply.
