Impregnar primarily means to saturate or permeate something with a substance — a smell, liquid, or dye — and is used far more often in this physical/figurative sense than to mean biological impregnation (for which embarazar or dejar embarazada is used). La madera quedó impregnada de humedad illustrates the typical usage.
