Usage Note

Gris is invariable for gender — un cielo gris, una tarde gris — but takes the regular plural grises. Used figuratively, un día gris or una vida gris conveys dreariness. In Spain gris was also slang for a policía gris (Franco-era grey-uniformed riot officer), a historically loaded usage.
