Usage Note
Finalista is a common-gender noun — el finalista or la finalista — always ending in -a. It refers to a competitor or team that has reached the final round of a competition. The adjective use is also possible: el equipo finalista. Do not confuse with ganador (winner) — a finalista may lose the final.
