Usage Note
Autogol is the Spanish term for an own goal in football (soccer), when a player accidentally scores into their own net. It is masculine: el autogol. Figuratively it is widely used in political and journalistic language to mean a self-inflicted blunder: el gobierno marcó un autogol con esa declaración. The plural is regular: autogoles.
