verb eh-kee-pah-RAHR Rare

Origin: From Latin aequiparare (to compare as equal).

Usage Note

Equiparar means to place two things on an equal footing — salaries, rights, standards. The reflexive equipararse a or equipararse con means 'to compare oneself with' or 'to be on a par with'. It is a formal alternative to igualar and is common in labour-law and policy contexts: equiparar los salarios (to equalise wages).

Examples

"Quieren equiparar los sueldos de hombres y mujeres."

Natural Translation

They want to equalise the salaries of men and women.
