Enfrentar means to face a challenge or adversary (enfrentar un problema). The reflexive enfrentarse a/con is equally common and often preferred (el equipo se enfrenta al campeón). Unlike confrontar, which can sound adversarial, enfrentar is neutral and fits both literal and figurative contexts.
