Usage Note
Dominicano refers to the Dominican Republic (República Dominicana) — not to the island of Dominica (a separate Caribbean country) nor to a Dominican friar (dominico). As a noun it means 'a Dominican person.' The feminine form is dominicana. Learners should be careful not to confuse República Dominicana with Santo Domingo, which is just its capital city.
