Americano in Spanish most naturally refers to anyone from the American continents (North, Central, or South America), not just the United States. To specify a US citizen, speakers use estadounidense or the informal norteamericano. As a noun it can also refer to a type of diluted espresso coffee, borrowed from 'Americano'.
