divorciar
to divorce; to get divorced
verb dee-bohr-SYAHR Rare
Origin: From Latin divortium, 'separation'.
Usage Note
Divorciar is almost always used reflexively: divorciarse de alguien means 'to divorce someone'. The non-reflexive transitive (un juez los divorció) is much rarer. The noun is divorcio and the adjective divorciado/a. In Spain and Latin America separarse can describe an informal separation without legal divorce, while divorciarse implies the legal process.
