Usage Note

Conocer expresses familiarity with people, places, or things, contrasting with saber, which covers knowing facts or how to do something. Meeting someone for the first time is conocer: encantado de conocerte (nice to meet you). The first-person present conozco has a spelling change that surprises learners.
