Usage Note
Complicación covers both a medical complication (complicaciones postoperatorias) and a general difficulty (surgió una complicación). The plural complicaciones is far more frequent than the singular. The verb is complicar; its reflexive complicarse means 'to become complicated' or informally 'to make life difficult for oneself'.
