Usage Note

Cielo means the physical sky as well as the religious afterlife. It is also a common term of endearment meaning 'darling' or 'sweetheart' (eres un cielo = 'you are a sweetheart'). The phrase a cielo abierto ('open-pit', as in mining) uses it in a technical compound.
