Usage Note
Aguanieve is a compound of agua (water) and nieve (snow) and refers to precipitation that is part rain, part snow — sleet. Its gender is feminine, as with most weather-related compound nouns built around agua, even though agua itself takes the masculine article el in singular for phonetic reasons (el agua). The word aguanieve takes la normally: la aguanieve. In some regions it is written as two words: agua nieve.
Examples
"Cayó aguanieve toda la mañana."
Natural Translation
Sleet fell all morning.
