Béisbol is an anglicism accepted by the Real Academia Española with the written accent on the first syllable. It is enormously popular in the Caribbean and Venezuela, where pelotero (ballplayer) and jonrón (home run) are common related borrowings. The sport is far less dominant in Spain, where fútbol prevails.
