Usage Note

Autorizar is a regular -ar verb. It takes a personal a before the person authorised, with an infinitive for the action: autorizar a alguien a hacer algo. The noun is autorización and the agent is autorizador/autorizadora. In bureaucratic and legal Spanish it appears constantly in passive constructions: fue autorizado (it was authorised).
