Acreditar means to officially accredit an institution or credential, to prove or certify something, or to credit someone with an achievement. In banking it means to credit an account (acreditar una cuenta), and in journalism to grant press accreditation. The reflexive acreditarse means 'to prove oneself' or 'to earn a reputation.'
