Also means
anxiety
Usage Note
Ansia (also ansias in the plural) captures intense desire or craving: ansia de libertad (longing for freedom). It also means acute anxiety or anguish. Although feminine, it begins with a stressed 'a', so in the singular it takes el ansia / un ansia (like agua and alma); the plural restores the feminine article: las ansias.
Examples
"Sentía un ansia enorme de salir."
Natural Translation
She felt an enormous longing to leave.
