Usage Note

Vecino means both the person next door (mi vecino de arriba — 'my upstairs neighbour') and a resident of a town or district (los vecinos del barrio — 'the neighbourhood residents'). The feminine is vecina. As an adjective it means 'neighbouring': el país vecino ('the neighbouring country').
