Usage Note

Valenciano refers to anything from Valencia (Spain) — its people, language, or culture. As a noun, el valenciano is the regional Romance language of Valencia, closely related to Catalan; Valencians often insist it is a distinct language rather than a dialect. The community is called la Comunitat Valenciana in its own language.
